Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator

Muhammad Rizwan asks that whenever he tries to open the task manager, he is encountered by the following error:

“Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator”
Here is solution from the Microsoft article about enabling the task manager:
Enabling Task Manager from Group Policy Editor
1. Go to “Start” -> “Run” -> Write “Gpedit.msc” and press on “Enter” button.
2. Navigate to “User Configuration” -> “Administrative Templates” -> “System” -> “Ctrl+Alt+Del Options”
3. In the right side of the screen verity that “Remove Task Manager”” option set to “Disable” or “Not Configured”.
4. Close “Gpedit.msc” MMC.
5. Go to “Start” -> “Run” -> Write “gpupdate /force” and press on “Enter” button.
Enabling Task Manager from Registry Editor
1. Go to “Start” -> “Run” -> Write “regedit” and press on “Enter” button.
Warning: Modifying your registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.
Always backup your files before doing this registry hack.
2. Navigate to the following registry keys and verity that following settings set to default:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System]
“DisableTaskMgr”=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Group Policy Objects\\LocalUser\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\System]
“DisableTaskMgr”=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\policies\\system\\]
“DisableTaskMgr”=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\Winlogon]
“DisableCAD”=dword:00000000
3. Reboot the computer.
For your convenience, I have created a registry file. Just download, double click it and add the info to your registry. The task manager will be enabled. Post your experiences please.

Enabling Task Manager from the Run Menu
Abdullah mailed me this solution. Go to Start –> Run and copy and paste the following and press OK.
REG add HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

no task manager and no ffolder option in tools.even gpedit.msc is not running.

  11. Deborah

Tried the Regedit and the gpedit and both kept reseting. Got my computer re formatted. Problem gone. As I slowly installed programs over the next few weeks, no problem till I once again installed Itunes. couldn’t fix the problem by going back to a recent restore point. So tried your format – first the gpedit, then the gpupdate /force and then the regedit. It worked, thank you thank you thank you. You saved me money getting the system fixed again.

re Enabling Task Manager from the Run Menu
“Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator” was a shocking new manifestation of the virus I’ve been dealing with since JAN 1, 2009 – started as “pcsecurity-antivirus2009.com” virus.
I’d got partial use of my pc back, but Task Mgr had been a major tool in that effort – so….
Abdullah – whoever you are – you do rock!
Took a chance on your START/RUN/(paste) solution and it worked!
Now if I can just kill the rest of this viral infestation!
Will probably end up with a full reformat/reload.
    Thanks a million,
    Moodred3

Hurray! This worked for me. My task manager was disabled by some malware that Avast got rid of, but the task manager was still inaccessible until I did this:
    REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
    Thanks a lot!

  41. VICKY

    thnccccccccccccx
    yaarrrrrrrrrrrr
    it helped
at last got rid of it……

  42. Tee-

In my case, Task Manager, Registry, & Folder Options are disabled. wscript.exe & auto.vbs runs in the background whenever i check it using msconfig. I’ve had this freaking problem 3-4 times already. I have updated AV & AS software but still get infected. So frustrating.
I’ve done a lot of research, tried a lot of these so-called “solutions” but most have solutions on restoring what is disabled by the administrator but don’t you think what’s important first is how to remove the damn virus before restoring the disabled functions? Tried all the methods. It will restore the function temporarily but after I restart the computer it’s disabled again since the virus is still residing in the hard drive & can’t be detected by any of these AV & AS software. Apparently, nothing works really.
It all ends up me reformatting my PC as a solution. However, I can’t reformat my PC every time it gets infected.
Just want the real experts out there to share their information. What kind of virus/trojan/worm/spyware is this? What’s the real solution?

    1. Sanix

Tee- you should use our smart virus remover which can remove alot of viruses and revert the Windows settings to default. Please try it and tell me if it works for you:
      http://www.technize.com/?dl_id=6
Also install a real time antivirus on your system so that it doesn’t get affected often. See my article about 5 free antivirus softwares:
