We have a very good collection of softwares when it comes to the choice of compression software, both paid and freeware. WinRAR and WinZIP are the two popular choices in paid compression software and 7-Zip is the popular choice in free WinRAR/WinZIP afternatives. But today I will write about another rather new contender in the line of compression utilities, Haozip, a Chinese compression software.
Free WinRAR Alternative? Features Compared!
When looking at the interface of Haozip, it seems to be the perfect free WinRAR alternative as its graphical user interface (GUI) looks very similar to WinRAR. Even the Haozip icon looks very similar to WinRAR.
Let’s look at the screenshot of Haozip:
The view looks very similar to WinRAR. Even the sequence of icons is very similar. There is a folder tree which can be enabled or disabled from the View Menu. The details pane is very helpful and gives some details about the compressed file like file name, modified date and file size etc.
During installation, the file type selection window is also quite similar to WinRAR.
There are 38 types of files that can be opened through Haozip including the popular ones like zip, RAR, 7z, tar, ISO, DMG, TGZ, JAR, ACE and IMG. Other features of Haozip include creating self extracting archives, extraction of multiple archives into their respective folders and repair, split, join and convert the archives. Haozip also includes a built in image viewer.
Limitations of Haozip
While Haozip supports almost all the popular compression formats that other popular softwares support, it can only create files in zip, 7z and tar format.
System Requirements
Although Haozip supports multiple languages, there is only one setup file for all the languages. The supported languages include Chinese and English. The same setup can be used to install 32 bit or 64 bit version of Haozip. Haozip automatically detects the architecture and then automatically installs the appropriate version.
Supported Operating Systems included Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

How fast is and especially for high compression
How rip-off is…
0v0. Yes, It’s Really NICE.
I’ve tried 7zip and Haozip both, but not convinced so sticking to WinRAR which I am using since years.
I’ve found HaoZip slow compared to WinRAR when unzipping.
