Error 1404. Setup Cannot Delete The Registry Key

I was installing Microsoft Office on one of my client’s PCs and a strange error popped up saying something like this:

Error 1404. Setup cannot delete the registry key.

This is the first time I’m getting this error. I researched a bit and found out that this error comes because we don’t have write permissions on that specific registry key. I researched about this error and came up with the following solution:

1. Go to Start –> Run –> regedit
2. Go to the key which was creating problems (it may be specified in the error log file of the software)
3. Go to Edit –> Permissions
4. Add your username in the permissions box and select Allow all to give yourself full permissions.

Hopefully this will solve the problem of not deleting the registry key from registry.
