Last time I wrote about two tools to control multiple computers with one mouse and keyboard. Today we’re going to talk about the reverse scenario in which we can use multiple mouse and keyboard on one computer. Normally when we attach two mouse or keyboards, both the mouse use the same cursor in order to move. But if we want to work in a collaboration environment, we would need multiple mouse and keyboards. See the picture below for example.
While we can easily share one keyboard, mouse and monitor with a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) Switch, there are some times when we want to share all these on multiple computers without using any hardware device like the KVM Switch. Let’s talk about the softwares that are available which simulate the function of KVM switch. There are two sofwares that I know of which can be used to share the mouse and keyboard on multiple computers.

Windows 7 is the latest addition to Windows based operating system and is being considered as much faster, safer and better then its predecessor Vista. Most of the Windows users are feeling satisfied after upgrading there systems to Windows 7 which is fuelling the rapid popularity and adoption of the operating system around the globe. Apart from features such as DirectAccess, VPN Reconnect, Multi touch to name a few and benefits such as greater speed, longer battery life, etc., Windows 7 also possess virtual Wi-Fi capability.
This virtual Wi-Fi capability is the key to new and enhanced wireless experience for a Windows 7 user because with this capability, a Windows 7 notebook with a plugged or embedded Wi-Fi adapter can be converted into a Wi-Fi router/Access Point. Such a Wi-Fi router is popularly termed as SoftAP, in short for software Access Point. Also, the same Wi-Fi adapter which is used to host the SoftAP, can be simultaneously be used as Wi-Fi client to connect to regular Wi-Fi networks.
If you work in an environment where there are multiple printers and you need to print different documents using different printers. For example, we have two printers in our office. One is for draft printing which is a black and white laser printer. And the other one is a color laser printer which is used for printing legal documents and pictures.
Let’s assume I want to set the color laser printer as default for my Adobe Photoshop application and the black and white laser printer as default for my Microsoft Word application. Automatic Printer Switcher is a freeware application which does this job very easily.
If you are a mobile user meaning that you have to travel between different networks to do your work, then you must be aware of the headaches of changing the network settings according to the new environment. For example, I have a laptop which I use in my office, at home and sometimes when I go to my friends. I have different security settings at home where as a different set of network settings are required at my office. Remembering and changing network settings every time I switch between networks is a headache.
There are a few utilities that I have found useful which can automatically switch between different network configurations in a single click. Let’s go through all of them:
