How to Retrieve Deleted Gmail Messages and Outlook.com Emails?

Exchanging messages has become so popular today! Whether you use the Facebook Messenger or Twitter, it is all about messages. But still to-date Email is so popular that Microsoft started convert of Hotmail account to Outlook.com. Gmail and Yahoo are still going great guns! But sometimes things can go wrong when you are working with a pc/laptop/smartphone and it necessarily need not be your fault.

Emails can be deleted on purpose or by chance. For example your ex-girlfriend, colleague or enemy can gain access to your Gmail account and delete all your emails. Sometimes hackers can intrude into your email system and create havoc with your data.

How to Retrieve Deleted Gmail Messages?

If you have created regular Gmail backups you can recover deleted Gmail messages right from Gmail’s web interface. But somehow if you are lazy like me and have no mail backups, you can still recover the lost data provided you meet the following two conditions.

  • Mails have not been deleted from the Gmail trash
  • Less than 30 days have passed since the deletion

All the deleted Gmail messages will be in “Trash” folder until you manually purge them or for a time period of 30 days. To check whether you Gmail messages are in your “Trash” folder, complete the following:

1. Go To your Gmail account and Sign-in.

2. Locate the “Trash” folder on the left side bar. This generally will be below the “Spam” folder.

3. There is also a short-cut to reach this folder. Type “in:trash” in Gmail search and there you are:

clip_image002

From the email messages available in the “Trash” folder you can select your wanted mails and move them to “Inbox” or any other folder of your choice. You generally need to click the drop-down menu to reach the “Inbox” or any other folder.

If you haven’t found your deleted Gmail messages here, you can post a support request on the official Gmail forum as a last resort.

How to Restore Deleted Outlook.com Emails?

Just like in Gmail, if you have deleted important emails in your Outlook.com email service you can restore them without any hassle.

How-to:

1. Login to your Outlook.com service.

2. In the left sidebar/pane of the Outlook.com home screen, you will see a “Deleted” folder. It’s just like the “Trash” folder in Gmail.

3. You can do similar tasks as you have done in Gmail “Trash” folder here.

clip_image004

As you can observe all the deleted messages are stored in this folder. Just select the email you want to un-delete and click the drop-down on “Move to” tab and choose Inbox. Your deleted message will be back in your Inbox.

But there is one more advantage compared to Gmail in Outlook.com. Suppose you have even deleted all the messages in the Deleted folder too, you can still restore them back. This possibility is not available in Gmail. You just have to put a support request in one of the product forms of “Google”.

clip_image006

Just, click on the “recover deleted messages” present at the bottom on the right side pane of the Deleted folder. Hooray! Outlook.com will try to restore all your deleted messages. Once they are back in your Deleted folder, you just have to move your wanted mails to Inbox as we mentioned before.

clip_image008

You will see the above message at the bottom of the retrieved deleted messages, once they are restored. “We brought back every message we could. Please move anything you want to keep since the Deleted folder is emptied periodically. …

As you observed in Gmail and Outlook.com it’s very easy to get back your deleted messages if you are on a high alert. Sometimes they get deleted permanently and the only chance to restore them back is using support forums and sending a request to the Email service.

Common Problems in Online Storage Software and How to Fix Them

Online storage software is a service whose time has definitely arrived. Online storage lets you store and restore the entire digital contents of your computer or smart phone. If you’re looking to store music, video files, or large documents, online storage makes more and more sense. Compared to local hard drives and flash drives, there’s substantially less potential for data loss. And you have greater storage size capabilities, too. Online storage systems are changing the way people and businesses store data, share files, and collaborate.

Of course, even as the market and capabilities for cloud computing increases and improves, it’s not the perfect world.

And while a large percentage of computer savvy consumers use cloud services, only about a quarter of you actually understand how the service works. While cloud based services are relatively secure and trouble free, outages can happen – and it’s important not to panic, notify tech support, and allow a little time for the problem to be fixed.

Sometimes, common problems have little to do with service outages, and more to do with fairly minor personal issues. Simple user-based problems do arise, and you need to be able to fix them with a minimum of inconvenience.

Here are some basics. If you’re utilizing an online storage system for music or video files, and you’re finding that your storage service is not effectively backing up those files, take the time to make a simple check – make sure that the file extensions are not restricted. Whether the extension is .mp3 or .mov, restrictions can happen. The fix is simple: rename the file.

Another common issue: large files that are not backing up. If this occurs, you’ll want to be certain there’s no file size limit. And what if there is? Talk to your cloud server’s customer service and ask them to remove it. There are plenty of choices in the online storage marketplace, and letting them know that if the limit isn’t removed you’ll take your business elsewhere should get their attention.

Sometimes online storage software simply isn’t working after install – or it won’t install properly in the first place. If this happens, make sure you’re using an administrative account to activate. If you’re not, this can make the difference between smoothly working software and an unworkable install.

You should also be aware of server issues in regard to confidential data and hackers. Read your cloud based storage system’s agreement and don’t hesitate to question safety. Research what provider is best for you and what level of safety and storage capacity is right as well. Make sure you’re aware of the security level offered.

If you’re a gamer and storing games via the cloud, be sure that your cloud storage of a game doesn’t include game settings. If it does, launching the game on a computer with a different resolution screen from the one you’re originally played on creates an Unsupported Resolution error. To fix it, you’ll have to manually edit the configuration file for the correct screen resolution, then play, save and exit.

Another potentially common issue can occur if you never delete any files from an unlimited online storage system. Let’s say you want to restore your computer and you don’t want all that information back on it, or you want your computer to run faster without some files. Simple solution: spend a bit of time every month cleaning your online account. Not only will this prevent an accumulation of unwonted material, but it will also help you verify that your data is all being backed up and no glitches or lost files have occurred.

Five Reasons Your Computer Will Disallow Your Broadband from Working Faster

That your broadband internet connection does not perform well might not be a fault of your internet service provider. Many people enjoy the performance of their broadband internet when they install it newly on their computer but when it begins to get old on the computer, their broadband internet connection will not run faster as it used to again. If you happen to fall into the category of people I just mentioned above, then you are here for a solution to your broadband Internet connection.

In this post, I shall be giving some reasons why your computer will be causing your broadband internet connection to become slow in performance and if any of them applies to you, you can reverse it by following the solution I will be giving along with each reason.

Too many files and applications

Having as much files and programs as one wants on one’s computer shouldn’t be any other person’s burden and nobody should regulate the way you install and download files on your computer. But let me inform you that installing just any program you come across on the internet can cause your computer a whole lot of damage. When you have too many files and programs on your computer, most especially when those files are not needed on your computer, your computer will be slow in performance. The solution to this is to remove all unnecessary files and programs from your computer, and you should only do this if you want your broadband internet to perform well.

Computer infected with viruses

When your computer is infected with a virus or malware, you can’t expect it to perform as it used to do. Viruses can create unwanted files on your computer’s hard disk which will make your computer to become slow in performance.

If you have an antivirus program installed on your computer, run a system virus scan and remove the viruses that are on your computer. If you don’t have an antivirus program on your computer, install one today and scan your computer. Always make sure your antivirus program is up to date.

Fragmentation

Due to daily usage that does give the need for you to delete and replace files on your computer’s hard disk, there is what is called disk fragmentation which will occur as you use your computer. This is when your computer breaks the files into segments and stores them in different positions. This process makes it harder for your computer to read a file, so it then takes long for your computer to load a file. This will make your broadband internet connection slow as well.

To correct this, run disk defragmenter on the hard disk you want to defragment. Restart your computer and you will notice the changes in your computer and broadband internet connection.

Low grade computer

Another major factor that can cause your broadband internet and computer to work slowly is low computer configuration. If your hard disk is very low, you have to increase it for you to enjoy better broadband internet performance. Your RAM should also be pretty high. Install new RAM(s) on your computer to improve its performance speed. When you do this, you will see a great difference in your broadband internet performance.

Regular Updates

Updating the components of the computer regularly is one thing many people always fail to do. It is very important that you update the programs and drivers on your computer for you to get better performance from them. You might need to update your broadband firmware if necessary.

If you follow these tips and you don’t see any changes in your broadband internet’s performance, then the best option for you is to call your internet service provider.

Revive Your PC: How to Optimize a Slow Computer

Are you a not-so-proud owner of a slow computer? Too often our computers slow down to a crawl so that we feel like giving up and just getting a new one. But that’s not the way to go. Most likely it’s still possible to revive your PC without spending a single cent. Here is what you need to do:

1. Fix hard drive errors

Every time your programs crash, your computer freezes up and requires a hard reboot, or there is a power cut, your hard drive may experience errors and create bad sectors. These errors can accumulate over time and slow down your computer. That’s why your should run a tool called Check Disk at least once a month to fix all minor errors and prevent hard drive failure. To run Check Disk, do the following:

1. Click on the Start button and go to (My) Computer

2. Right-click on the hard drive you want to check and go to Properties

3. Go to the Tools tab, navigate to Error-checking and click Check now. Don’t forget to select the Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Otherwise the tool will simply report problems without fixing them.

4. Click Start to run the tool.

Remember that Check Disk can take quite a while to fix errors. That’s why you need to dedicate about 40 min. for it to do the job.

2. Delete temporary files

Temporary files are created every day when you browse the Web and open files and programs. As a result your computer starts losing out on hard drive space. Lack of free disk space can grind your PC to a halt and make some tasks impossible to process.

You can cleanup temporary files with the help of Windows built-in Disk Cleanup utility. To access it, click on the Start button, go to ProgramsAccessories. Launch the Disk Cleanup tool, let it analyze your disk and then let it clean up temporary files and the contents of your Recycle Bin.

3. Defrag and optimize system files placement

Whenever you save a new file or update an existing one, Windows breaks it up into small fragments and fits these fragments into bits of available free space. Over time too many of your files become fragmented, which means that your computer needs more time to find the fragments and open the files. So if your Word documents, photos, and software take ages to open, disk fragmentation might be responsible for that.

Windows has its own defragmentation utility that can be found under ProgramsAccessories, but it’s better to use a more advanced program, such as the free Auslogics Disk Defrag, to defragment files, free space, and optimize system files placement. That way you will speed up file access, prevent further fragmentation and make your computer start faster.

How To Extract Files From Damaged Archive

In this article we will discuss how to recover files from a damaged archive. There are times when our archives become corrupted while copying or moving the archive from one place to another or a virus can also corrupt an archive and make it useless because it can’t be opened through a regular archiving and compression utility like WinRAR or WinZIP.

Zip2Fix

Zip2Fix is a utility that comes to rescue in this situation. Zip2Fix can recover files from a damaged archive. It will extract undamaged files from the archive and compress them into a new zip file. It is a portable utility and can work from a USB flash drive. Currently Zip2Fix supports ZIP and SFX archives.

recover damaged archive

To recover files from a damaged archive, just run Zip2Fix and click on Open button and select the damaged archive which you want to process. It will quickly process all the files from the archive, extract the ones that are in good condition and place them in another zip file. The Zip file name is the same with ZFX extended to the archive name. You can then open the ZFX archive to see which files have been recovered from the damaged archive.

Foxit PDF Reader 5 Released With Ribbon UI

Foxit PDF Reader 5 has been released recently. The new Foxit PDF Reader 5 includes a lot of new enhancements and improvements. The most notable is the Ribbon UI and a Google Chrome like tabbed interface.

Foxit Reader is generally known for its slim and sleek design and small size as compared to Adobe Reader. The speed of Foxit Reader is far better than Adobe Reader but Foxit Reader used to be lacking some great features that Adobe Reader was offering but not any more. The new version of Foxit Reader is incredibly small, blazing fast and highly secure. It includes many improvements over the previous version.

Foxit Reader

Now Foxit Reader supports standard and XFA form filling with a better navigation layout of the document. The best part of Foxit Reader in its annotation tool. Now you can write your comments and annotations in the PDF files. Now it also includes a free spell checker for comments which will check the spellings in your annotations.

While installing the reader, you can specify whether you want to install addins for Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome and other shell extensions.

Foxit Reader Full installation

Foxit Reader will be integrated with Internet Explorer by default. But when you open Internet Explorer after installing Foxit Reader, you’ll get the following warning:

Foxit Reader security warning

You’ll need to check the checkbox “Do not show me the warning for this program again” and then click on Allow otherwise it will always show the security warning whenever you try to open any PDF file in Internet Explorer.

There’s a new feature in Foxit Reader called Trust Manager. In Trust Manager you can enable safe reading mode which will disable all the URLs, external files, JavaScript functionality etc. from the PDF files until you allow the links to be opened manually. This is a great security enhancement which will save people from accidental malware installation etc.

Foxit Reader Trust Manager

Another great feature of Foxit Reader is that free telephone support is available even for the free version of Foxit Reader. You only have to register for the support. You’ll get a registration option after installation.

Foxit Reader registration

In my opinion Foxit Reader is a better choice than Adobe Reader starting from version 5 because of its speed and security. So it’s time to replace the bloated Adobe Reader with Foxit Reader.

Foxit Reader is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Universal USB Installer–Make USB Bootable

If you have a laptop or a computer which doesn’t include a CD/DVD ROM, it will be almost impossible to install any new Operating System except for the one that is already installed. One other way to install the Operating System is to use a USB drive to install the Operating System but you’ll need to make the USB drive bootable. I have already written about Plop which can make any USB drive bootable even without BIOS support.

Universal USB Installer includes almost all kinds of bootable items including Operating Systems and bootable Troubleshooting tools. The list of installable stuff is very long and includes tools from almost all Linux and UNIX distros including Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Backtrack, OpenSUSE, Puppy Linux, Windows Operating Systems (Windows Vista and Windows 7) and troubleshooting tools like Hiren’s Boot CD, Acronis Rescue CD, Kon Boot, OphCrack etc. Universal USB Installer is a portable utility and is available for Windows only. So you can install any tool in your USB drive using Universal USB Installer.

Universal USB Installer Setup

Since most of the tools are free or open source, Universal USB Installer will give you an option to select the path of the installation if you have it on your computer or it can download it for you. You just have to check the checkbox next to the drop down list after selecting your distro. Or if you have the setup of your distro in the same folder as Universal USB Installer, it will automatically detect it and will skip the step of choosing the path of the distro.

Universal USB Installer Kon Boot

You should plug in your USB drive first before starting Universal USB Installer otherwise it will not be able to detect it automatically. After installation is complete, you can boot your computer with the USB drive and do whatever you want.

How To Remove Toolbars In Firefox Internet Explorer And Google Chrome

Many freeware and even shareware softwares nowadays come with bundled programs that get installed automatically without much knowledge to the user. Most of the non-techie users will find themselves in trouble once these bundled programs are installed and get into the way of the work being done on the computer. One such hindrance is from the browser toolbars. Most software come bundled with toolbars which get installed on our installed browsers, the most popular being Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.

Toolbar Cleaner is a free utility which lets you remove almost all kinds of toolbars installed in your browsers. It can remove about 15000 toolbars now including the browser helper objects (BHOs). This can also be very helpful in removing the spyware and malware that get installed in the browsers as BHOs.

The only thing I don’t like about Toolbar Cleaner is that it doesn’t have a portable version. If it had a portable version, any IT administrator could take this useful software with him on the USB and use it on any system he wanted.

Let’s look at the installation process of Toolbar Cleaner. It’s very easy to install Toolbar Cleaner as the installation process is guided by an installation wizard. The only tedious thing is the last options before finishing the setup. Here’s the screenshot:

toolbar cleaner setup

It gives the following options:

  • Protect my system with Anti-phishing Domain Advisor
  • Set MyStart as homepage

I don’t recommend the anti-phishing domain advisor and would stick to the built-in security built into Internet Explorer and Firefox. The second option would disturb your homepage so I would uncheck both of the options.

Toolbar Cleaner

The User Interface (GUI) of Toolbar Cleaner is quick simple and self explanatory. It lists all the toolbars and BHOs installed in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome respectively. You can check the toolbars which you want to remove and then click on “Remove selected Toolbar(s)/BHO(s)”. That’s all you have to do. Toolbar Cleaner will remove the selected options safely from the browser.
